YouTube is #ProudToLove

As you ought to know by now, the U.S. Supreme Court decided today that we shall have marriage equality in all 50 of the United States. Go USA!

YouTube was the first brand that I’ve seen respond to this news, though I’m sure it’s the first of many. It put out this lovely video spot:

#ProudToLove

It’s very well done, and it’s an excellent fit for YouTube. They include touching video from members of the YouTube community itself.

I want to mention briefly that this kind of message may not fit seemlessly into the ad schedule or social media output of other brands. It might not feel genuine coming from a brand that hasn’t openly supported the LGBT+ community in the past, and I dare say no other brand could match the sincerity of YouTube’s spot.

That said, this is a great day. This is historic news. It may not be a perfect fit for your brand, but I love seeing heartfelt responses anyway. Some say advertising reflects society, but we all know media can also shape it. Even if we are a reflection, we have a really big mirror.

Honestly, I just wanted to make this post to celebrate and share the video. Well done YouTube, thanks SCOTUS, and congratulations USA!
